Exam stress is a common phenomenon that affects students of all ages. . It's normal to feel stressed about upcoming tests, exams, papers or presentations, however it can become problematic when it interferes with your performance and well-being.
Some common things one might notice due to stress :
Physical signs such as fast heartbeat, headache and sweating
Behavioural signs like fidgeting, nail biting, and increased smoking, drinking or eating
Mental and emotional signs which include difficulty concentrating, racing thoughts, "going blank", and uncontrolled feelings of fear or helplessness
There are also some strategies that can help you cope with exam study skills, managing your thoughts, and practicing relaxation techniques. Here are some effective ways to cope with stress and prepare well for your exams :
Set realistic and achievable goals for your study plan.
Manage your time well and avoid procrastination.
Take regular breaks and do something that relaxes you, such as listening to music, reading books.
Eat healthy, drink plenty of water, and get enough sleep.
Exercise regularly and get some fresh air. Physical activity can boost your mood, reduce stress, and improve your concentration.
Talk to someone you trust about how you feel, such as a friend, family member, teacher, or counsellor. They can offer you support, advice, and encouragement.
Be kind to yourself and don't compare yourself to others. Focus on your own strengths and achievements, and don't let negative thoughts or doubts affect your confidence
Use positive affirmations and visualizations to calm your nerves and motivate yourself. For example, you can say to yourself "I can do this", "I have prepared well", or "I am capable and confident"
Review past exam papers and practice answering questions under exam conditions. This can help you familiarize yourself with the format, style, and timing of the exam, and identify your areas of improvement
